As founder and designer for VoltNow, the aspect I love most about starting this company is the ability to design without compromise. Yes, every product has to serve a functional purpose but it can also excel in design. There are hundreds if not thousands of choices to serve a functional need but a truly well designed product resonates with a user in a way that truly delights.
We spent months going through every stitch and reviewed hundreds of leather types before picking a super buttery soft yet durable pebbled leather. The corners are stitched in a way that takes twice as long but has a cleaner look. Then came the lining... we just were not thrilled with the basic nylon linings available so we set out to find something that inspired us.
In the end, we had to source a completely separate factory to create our own custom lining exactly to our specifications and Pantone colors. We opted for a platinum gold toned fabric with a small herringbone pattern. This is used for the ID slots and stash pocket lining. The fabric is very durable, has a subtle sheen and is way more interesting than basic nylon.
The issue with Herringbone stitching is that the edges fray. We solved that by adding a PU backing which not only solved the fraying problem but also helps with durability and wrinkling.
We could have used the same lining for the battery compartment but we wanted something with a little more pop. Our company colors are black and green so we set out to find a perfect green. Primary greens and dark hunter greens are well past their prime from a trend perspective. Pastels are also out of favor. Neon's are on the rise but just a bit too loud for our tastes. Earthy tone greens are definitely on trend and after several days and a few samples of contemplating our choice of green, we settled on Pantone 17-0535 TCX. We call this green a "Wasabi" green. Bright enough to add a pop of color but not too obnoxious.
We also designed the Wasabi Green lining to have a subtle texture using micro-fiber. It has a soft feel and protects electronics.
For both of these linings, we had to order a thousand square meters each. That is way more than we need but is necessary in order to get the fabric to our custom specifications.
The end result is a product that we truly take pride in and one that we hope you will truly enjoy for years to come.
